I was surprised to see that The Eagles (my favorite band) had released a new song and music video!
This video is hot on the viral charts right now. Pretty cool, prison inmates doing a video for Thriller (that Michael Jackson song).
So it looks like The Rubinoo’s (a 70’s band, who had a “hit” called “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”) is suing Avril Lavigne stating that her “Girlfriend” song infringes on their copyright.
I don’t know… I listened to both. The beat is similar, but unless someone can copyright “Hey, Hey, You, You” I don’t think there’s much of a case.
Here’s a comparison video so you can judge yourself.
After that Celine Dion show, I decided to dig through some of my old CDs. Some of my favorite female singers (of a similar style to Celine) are Tina Arena and Lara Fabian.
Tina Arena, goes back to my roots in Australia. Tina was a child-star, and has a fabulously strong voice. She now lives in France and mostly sings in French, but some of her original classics in English include Chains and Sorrento Moon.
Lara Fabian is Belgian. My first introduction to her was over 10 years ago, with her songs in French. I, of course, don’t speak or even understand any French, so my admiration for her talents were purely based on melody and vocals skills. My favorite is J’y Crois Encore. Perhaps her most famous English hit is I Will Love Again.
Here is one of my personal favorites - Tina Arena’s Les Trois Cloches.
Went to see Celine Dion with my wife last night. It was awesome!
It was a Caesar’s Palace (Las Vegas), in the Colosseum. I’d never driven to Caesar’s before, but there were (at least) two entrances. To get to the Colosseum, go to the Self Parking garage (as that’s the closest point, and shortest walk to the venue).
I was impressed that Celine still had amazing vocals. I guess after performing every night (well that’s not true, I think she only performs 4 night a week), after 4.5 years in Vegas, you would think that the tedium might have gotten to her. But not so!
The venue looked sold-out (no empty seats in my section, and looking throughout the audience I wasn’t able to discern any other empty seats), and the place is huge!
Tickets were a tad expensive. $115 per seat (and that was at the mid-tier-price 1st Mezzanine level), which was about $150 by the time you counted all the tax. Show went on for just under 1.5 hours, but we left feeling that we had our money’s worth. I won’t go into the details, but the vocals, special effects and dance choreography were all top quality.
This is her last year in Vegas (half a year left!), so if you haven’t seen it yet, I’d highly recommend it.
