Feargal Sharkey - A Good Lyric…

I was listening to an 80’s radio station today, and heard Feargal Sharkey’s “A Good Heart” (a classic song from the 80’s).

That was when I noticed that every single line from that song was a cliche:

  • Risk of getting hurt
  • I still have so much to learn
  • Real love is hard to find
  • My expectations may be high
  • I blamed it on my youth
  • I learned the painful truth
  • Please be gentle with this heart of mine
  • I learned a little every day

Which made me wonder, whether this song was so good that every line of it entered popular culture and became cliches we now use? Or did the guy just rip off every cliche in the book, to create this this song? Judge for yourself…

DVD Play

I’ve been noticing an interesting kiosk device at my local Von’s (also known as “Safeway” in the rest of the US).

DVD Play Kiosk

Turns out, it’s a machine where you can rent movies. It’s actually really easy to use, and I was able to get the New Release of my choice on a Friday evening (try that at any local video store!). Best of all, it’s pretty darn cheap! $1.49 (+ taxes) per DVD, or $0.99 (+ taxes) on Mondays. You have to return it by 7pm the next day.

The rental DVD comes out in a plastic case (like those slim plastic CD cases). The DVD has bar codes in the middle (around the center hole), which is how the machine figures out that you’ve returned the correct DVD.

All up: really cheap, seemingly huge selection and availability, and convenient! A really great idea!

If you’re like to find out more or find the location of your nearest machine, check out: http://www.dvdplay.com

Felony charge for wearing a T-Shirt?!

I was just browsing the latest news, and came across the article about how Kid Rock got into a fight at the Waffle House. A little bit of celebrity gossip never heard anyone :)

Anyway, according to the Rolling Stone article:

Rock and his entourage were arrested and taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery. Rock was booked with an additional charge of “Wearing a shirt with his own face on it,” which should be a felony.

WTF?! Getting into a brawl is a misdemeanor and “wearing a shirt with his own face on it” is a felony?!

I don’t have any opinion about Kid Rock one way or the other. My point is, it’s illegal to wear a shirt with your own face on it???

Viral Blog Syndication

If you’re a blogger, BlogRush.com is a very cool new way to get word out about your blog!

What happens is you put a widget on your blog. And each time someone visits your blog, you get a credit for one of your posts to be displayed on the widget on someone else’s related site. That means you get your posts out to people who are on similar websites (and already interested in same topics).

This may very well be the first cooperative viral blog syndication system. This is a short video about how it works:

If you’ve got a blog, you should get on Blog Rush now!

Google Maps with Street View

It’s been awhile since I poked around Google Maps. But I was doing a search the other day, and noticed a new feature called “Street View”, which is pretty impressive! You can get a street-level picture of many major streets, and you can even “drive” along (by clicking on the forward arrow in the picture, you can see the view a little further up).

Here’s a screen-shot of this cool new feature:
